The mirror - most sophisticated pop lyric - early april fools?

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...p-band-4743599

According to this article, the most sophisticated lyric in pop belongs to- Depeche Mode (?!)
And Jethro Tull is among the 10 bands with the least sophisticated lyrics.
    WTF?
Have these people ever read a Peter Hammill lyric in their life?
And Ian Anderson has the IQ of Steven Hawking, are these guys serious?

Looks like the less readable the lyrics, the higher the sophistication level.

"Sophisticated Pop Lyric" is an oxymoron.

And just because a couple dozen people (myself included), probably all on this site, admire the songs of Peter Hammill, does not make him a pop artist.

"Each song was scored on the readability of its lyrics using the Coleman Liau Index and the SMOG index, two algorithms used to determine the difficulty of school texts."

This is not a proper methodology to evaluate song lyrics, IMO.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

I think the results are a proof of that :P

Sting's lyrics were usually pretty literate. Music wasn't always at the same level.
