“Remember, if it doesn't say "Cuneiform," it's not prog!” - THE Jed Levin
Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"
please add 'imo' wherever you like, to avoid offending those easily offended.
Absolutely. Thanks for making this stuff available.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
Wonderful!

Excellent news, looks like a lot of autobuys to me, been looking forward to the Scherzoo and Unit Wail.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Great news, thanks!
(Still hoping for more Neom at some point though...)
Indeed. I recently revisited their debut, and it somehow got me wondering if maybe knowing about the mere existence of a specified label like SZ prompts certain musicians to dare create material within said idiom. I mean, nowadays - who else would issue this stuff? Musea have pretty much quit releasing more experimental progressive (with Masal and a cuppa other honorable exceptions), and while AltrOck did the (quite wonderful) Rhùn CD and Cunei obviously the Happy Family, I think a phenomenon like SZ contributes in encouraging new names.

Just to complete the info about the Nadavati album - a great French jazz-fusion album in the same league as Edition Spéciale, Bloom, Surya etc.
The complete line-up of the band amounts to a supergroup of sorts -
Jacky Liot - guitar/composer
Patrice Quentin - sax/flute (Crium Delirium, Urban Sax)
Mico Nissim - keyboards (Bloom, Claude Barthélémy, Jacques Mahieux)
Alain Lecointe - bass (Hamsa Music, Alain Eckert, Strave)
Didier Hauck - drums (Triode)
with
Richard Raux - sax (Magma, Hamsa Music)
Michel Ripoche - violin (Zoo)
Lionel Ledissez - voice (Ergo Sum)
I am writing the liner notes, based on recent interviews with all five core members of the band.

Awesome news! Scherzoo is definitely auto buy for me, and the others all look highly worthy of further investigation.
I, too, hope for a new Neom and a new Setna, at some point!

That Soleil Zeuhl day in Paris last year was wonderful.

Awesome! Autobuys!
Anyone want to speculate on the late 70s archive?
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
Sweet.
Scherzo and Unit Wail are the autobuys for me. Probably will get the other two at some point as well. I'll be noncommittal on the '?' as of now.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
Nice set of discs.
La STPO have some excellent stuff in the post punky RIO vein.

Cool- looking forward to reading them! The album is really quite nice, and I'll be a first day buyer of the CD.
Hmmm. Given the time frame of the late 70s, I'll rule out "4th" album contenders like Eskaton and Eider Stellaire. I would have to go with Weidorje here, knowing they do have unreleased material, mostly live.
Great to be hearing from you, Alain... I was fearing the worst about your lengthy silence, and the aftermath of the Le Zebre thingie last year.
Surely the Navadati release is an autobuy
STPO, on the other hand is not really my thing
Setna and Neom, yes!!! They can't do much wrong, IMHO
the UW and Scherzoo descriptions are hopefully accurate, because they're not auto-buy for me
Abus Dangereux certainly recorded plenty of stuff in the 80's.... none of it bnearing the quality of their debut album
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Any vinyl of these reissues, or all digital?
Thanks.
4 of the 5 new releases will be available VERY shortly (next week). This is the most diverse bunch of releases ever issued by the label :
- UNIT WAIL : their 3rd album is in line the previous two ; very mature compos & sound - their best so far! Dark as hell, bombastic tunes in there.....
- NADAVATI "le vent de l'esprit...." is a prog/jazz-rock album, a reissue of a 1976 forgotten album - featuring a stellar cast of musicians (Alain Lecointe from A. Eckert band, Strave), Lionel Ledissez (Ergo Sum), Richard Raux (Magma) etc. Plus a 19 minutes live bonus track from 1979. The booklet, written by our friend Calyx, details the history of the band . Although not really avant-prog, I cherish this largely instrumental album with horn & string sections since long because it's both powerful & melodic - a shame it's been so badly promoted back then. To be filed besides french bands like Spheroe, Chute Libre, CCCP, Transit Express, Surya...
- SCHERZOO : "03" continues the process started a few years ago now with 01 ; a mix of Zeuhl-ish compos, prog, jazz, canterbury. All instrumental as usual. This is probably their album with the most open sound, coming much closer to electric jazz than before.
- La STPO : l'imparfait multiple de dieu. A great album by this long-lived but underrated band (because of the difficulty to classify them).
imo they could have been one of those odd french bands that the mighty AYAA label produced in the 90s. This CD is possibly an update of the 80/90s RIO sound, mixed with a touch of Pere Ubu, the Work, Red Crayola etc. 3 tracks including a loooooong saga clocking at 27 minutes!
You can hear extracts of these 4 here : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2v...9tgWqWc1KPhZ8w
PLUS an extract of the 5th mysterious issue (possibly available in april, to be confirmed soon). But....who's this band ???
The mysterious one sounds a bit like Altaïs to me...
P.S. not only just a bit cool
Ok a full Album by Altaïs would be fun, but the mysterious issue is told to be end 70s and Altaïs
existed just a short time in the mid 80s and are hardly worth making such a secret (as they are hardly
kown).
But the keyboard lady of that band was Isabelle Nuffer who happend to be in the late... Eider Stellaire! hmmmm....
(which would also explain a seperate EP for just 14 min.) (P.S. of course Eider Stellaire where also from the 80s
I keep forgetting that and Nuffer was in Altaïs before not after Eider Stellaire) )

That Nadavati sounds excellent, guess I'm buying all of them as soon as they get Stateside.
Oh & I want that mystery band as well, whoever they are, someone must know, love the fuzz bass.
