All Things That Rocks Expo Nov. 28-29 in the Philly area

Most people in the Philadelphia area are aware of the rock expo that happens every year the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year is apparently a little different. Perhaps someone can shed some light on the reason for the transformation. Not to say that it will be any better though. It's been going down hill for the last about 10 years or so. This year they are calling it the "All Things That Rock Expo" and it's no longer a free event The expo will have 20,000 square feet of cd's, records, tapes, videos and memorabilia. Live entertainment from the one and only Mickey Dolenz. Don't get too excited now, you may wet your pants. Also Jade Starling (Pretty Poison) yum yum, Peter Criss (Kiss), Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Ed Kowalcyzk (Live), Denny Laine (Wings) David Uosikkinen (The Hooters), Vinny Martell (Vanilla Fudge) will be there to sign auto-graphs. If you are interested you can go to the website: $10 entry fee

The show host is going to be Eddie Trunk. The show is going to be at the Philly Expo center in Oaks. I saw the add when I was there 2 weeks ago for the guitar show. Have not been to one of these in many many years. I recall going when it was at the K of P Scanacon or Sheraton. I also recall going once when it was at the Armory in NE Philly. I am never free this weekend.

It's been really bad the last several years. I'm wondering if they are trying to revive it when you look at all the personality's that they are bringing in this year. Doesn't mean that the vendors will be any better though. I wouldn't pay anything just to see these guys and have the same lame tables of junk vendors to look through.

I remember going to the show twice in King of Prussia. The first year, there were still plenty of bootleg dealers (this was before I discovered tape trading and bit torrenting, and sharing the music rather than buying) plus Ken was there with a Laser's Edge table. The next year, the bootleg dealers were gone, so that freed me up to spend hundreds of dollars at Ken's table.

That said, I wish I could be in the Philly area for this show. It actually looks really cool. Even if the dealers suck, some of the musicians are worth seeing, and I would have definitely been interested in the Eddie Trunk Q&A.

I think the bootleg dealers were banned because of all of the crap with trading and downloading. They were back last year. The worst was when they had a wrestling demo there-like WTF??? I am there to buy music, not watch a bunch of fat idiots leap around a ring like drunk ballerinas. I did see Ken Kelley once at the Armory, which was cool.

The best year was the one where they had the porno actresses. That was fun.

The show was run into the ground well over a decade ago and its never recovered. Even though I swore I wouldn't go last year I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. It was abominable. I paid for the early admission...only to stand around and watch the dealers take their sweet time setting up in an ice cold 3/4 empty room.

I've got it out of my system. I'm done with this show.

I didn't make it last year. I had a really busy weekend at work. It was the first time I ever didn't make it and I didn't feel bad about it. Maybe this year will be better, but I'm apprehensive about paying to get into it and then finding it not to be worth it. I may go just to see if it's better. $10 won't break me. It's the time that I can't get back. I don't suppose Ken or any prog vendor will be there. I know Ken gave up on it years ago.

Anyone go to this? I didn't make it. Had to work. Not sure I cared enough to pay to get in. How was the turnout?

I did. It was actually not bad, even with the 11$ admission. There were quite a few folks. Got lots of cool stuff!

I probably would have gone if I didn't work. I don't think I cared about the guests there, but would have liked to look through the merchandise tables.

I did not even say hi to them, as I probably would have been charged just for making eye contact. I know some was for charity, but I'm not sure how much. Did get some Christmas shopping done.

Found a really uber cool item-a cassette of Tura Satana's album.

I got the impression that you had to pay to meet and great these people or at least some of them. Glad you enjoyed it. I've felt as though everything rare I've already found years ago and the only thing's left would be happenstance of me finding.

This sounds like the 'Rock and Roll Flea Market" I attended in Philly in the early/mid 80's. The 'celebrity' guest was Peter Tork; I saw him but didn't meet him. They had tons of vinyl bootlegs & video footage (in a separate room specifically for video), and I bought my first 2 bootlegs there. 2 Doors albums ( no shock to anyone that knows me). I'm stunned that it's till an annual event 30 years later. then again, it is Philadelphia, not Louisville. Much bigger place.
