Chorinho is the popular designation of the 'samba-choro' fusion
Thanks, now you've taught me something I didn't know.

That arrangement is a bit heavy handed. Sounds like McCoy Tyner meets Donald Byrd on the A New Perspective album.

Astute observation, Reid. You KNOW he's heard both! And the (long) album has a lot of strings and choir on it, which I find to be pretty cheesy. It's a diverse album and I like that he's trying to revitalize some older subgenres of jazz, but personally, I don't find it worthy of the hyper boil it's getting. As always, ymmv.

    Easy for myself:
"The Epic" just came out in the right and perfect time for my ears ;-), it`s in my top 5 for this 2015, but see, that`s just me No Pride ... love the concept, the musics, etc. ... and yes, probably there`re more jazz sax players/composers.

    Cheers!.

That's cool, Tomas! I've found that even with the folks around here who's musical tastes are the closest to mine, there's music that we don't hear the same way or agree about it's merits or lack thereof. I wouldn't have it any other way, we're all individuals!

    An interesting trivia:
Their first work (Uakti - Oficina Instrumental) was released one year after the good popularity they achieved for participating on Milton Nascimento's gigs, with whom they did their first public appearance, as they had been present as artists invited on the recording of the Milton's album "Sentinela" (1980), at that time with his superb group Clube da Esquina.
Tankx for sharing Ricardo ... great!.
