Clearly they're a seminal band.
Clearly they're a seminal band.
This thread needs to be cut because the uncut version is too long.
I categorize this music not as "difficult" but as "music that is hard to listen to on CD but would be awesome to see performed live!"
I've gotten a tremendous amount of pleasure from this.
But, but... the UK Het never enjoyed any hit, not even a tiny one, so they're skinned and obviously more in need of bread here.
Unless Willy Steve is donning a complete makeover deluxe package triple CD with foldout poster and lotsa bonus and foreword by Neal Stolt's ol' grandma Olga!!!!!
Now THAT would surely render them "seminal".
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
GREAT album! The music for the hanging of a minister
"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible"
-Frank Zappa
I never sausage an album!
So....got "Let's Het" on Friday. Weird first impression: reminded me of The Fall of Us All by Steve Tibbitts, only with the guitar tracks muted.
Very dense stuff...but also pretty interesting. Have it playing behind me right now in fact.
Weird footnote: among the backing singers for one of the tracks is "Fish." Not sure if it is THAT Fish or not...
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com
I received Let's Het a couple of days ago and i concur with Mr.Battema;it is rather dense and clotted but interesting. It is definitely a candidate for more listens;i'm hooked.Poisons is ,for me, the most challenging track on the cd.
"please do not understand me too quickly"-andre gide

Is there an extended version?
Probably hard to get though.
Finally just clicked on this and very happy to see it's the Het song.
Let's Het is a classic. One of those select favourite albums I have on LP AND CD.
I've played Penis on my stupid radio show a few times.
Right on Frank.
I suspect I would have played it more often if I had the LP; it'd be easier to portion out the Music in 20+ minutes sittings. I really cherish the AdHoc CD, but the whole of it is exhaustive. Of course I COULD try turning it off in the middle, but I somehow respect this kind of work too much to succeed in so.

Hahahaha ! I hadn't been here in a while, I open up the main page, I see the thread title - and who made the original post - and JUST KNEW WITHOUT A DOUBT, what it was all about.....
My favorite song on one of my favorite albums. It was the second disc we issued, after the entire collection of MCCB. It initially sold like hotcakes, but has been cool for some years now, so I'm glad to see some interest. HET are greatly under-appreciated, in my book, and deserve to be heard by adventurous listeners, who can find it at Wayside. If not, PM me, and I'll see what can be done.
Why is this thread so long and hard, to understand?
It's always reassuring to confirm that erudite humor still reigns supreme here at Ridgemont High.
"My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician, and to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference"
President Harry S. Truman
It was ages since I played this. Good to be reminded.
Need to put it on as soon as possible, i. e. now.
