Thread: Wyaside, Ken and Greg Walker, Esoteric and Where else???

Wyaside, Ken and Greg Walker, Esoteric and Where else???

I post this question to my fellow PE'ers. When purchasing vinyl or Cds I try to purchase from the 4 mentioned and bands web shops. But when I want
something that they don't have where do you shop. I guess what I' m trying to say I want to avoid Amazon. Any other recommendation?? They treat their
employees like whale dung and they are tax exempt. Not getting my $$$$ anymore...

    There's also:

    http://www.douglarsonimports.com/
    http://www.znrcds.com/osc/catalog
    https://www.deepdiscount.com/
    http://www.importcds.com/
    http://www.artist-shop.com/

Also, Gemm and Musicstack are good for really obscure and hard to find things(ie out of print items). There's also cd baby for independent releases but it's kind of hard to find prog on there(other than really really obscure bands and artists).

I don't really care much for amazon either actually but someone(a fellow online music fan) recently gave me an amazon gift card and I plan on using it.

Record Heaven in Sweden. I've been purchasing from them for 20+ years.

These days I purchase most of my music through Bandcamp.

He stated his reasons - they treat their employees like whale dung and they're tax exempt. While I agree with all that I don't think my business is enough to influence their corporate policy.

Man, if I avoided every company that treated their employees like crap I'd never buy anything. Lol. Like the above poster stated me boycotting a company is not going to change things. If I have a personal experience with a place that is negative that is a different story and I'll probably avoid them but I can't rely too much on what others say because these things are rather common.

While Greg Walker has long been my drug connection, when he "does not carry" (as last night when I asked about a new release of a long-lost live Move recording), I sometimes do the band's website (so that all $ goes to the band, and no middle man), or similar outlets as already mentioned here. That said, and regarding Amazon: I do not buy from the company itself, but the individual sellers are not out-of-bounds for me, and frequently offer excellent fixed prices. As a fan of the avant, I have made excellent purchases of works by Uz Jsme Doma ($5-10) and Sleepytime (same), simply because someone bought the album, hated it after one play, and sought to sell. True, a re-sale does not profit the band, and these days that really saddens me, but if you're on a tight budget....

The problem with Deep Discount is they list a truckload of stuff that they don't actually have available. At least a few things, I've ordered stuff from them, waited a couple months for it to come, only to eventually get an e-mail saying "We can't restock that, so your order is being cancelled". WHAT?! I know there's a few things on Amazon where they say it's "temporarily out of stock" and has been so for months, but they tell you to "Order now and we'll ship it when we restock it", which probably means they send out some of those "We can't restock so we're cancelling your order" e-mails as well.

Amazon is tax exempt? I want all the sales tax I've been paying back, then.

As for treating their employees like whale dung, Wayside and Esoteric force their employees to read web sites where a bunch of weirdos hang out.

You've been paying sales tax to Amazon? I sure haven't. Or are you in the same state as the home office or whatever? I know that's the one reason I haven't shopped more with The Artist Shop, the one order I did with them went really nicely, but it's based in Ohio, so I ended up getting charged Ohio sales tax (which I somehow hadn't caught onto until I saw the sales slip when the package arrived).

The thing I like with Amazon is you can get free shipping. But sometimes the prices are higher than what you'd pay for through Wayside or Laser's Edge or whatever. I mainly shop with Wayside, mainly out of habit because I've been buying from Steve for somewhere around 20 years now. I usually only go to one of the other dealers when I'm hot to get something Steve doesn't have in stock.

DMG is in Chinatown, now, eh? Given what happened the two times I walked into the old store, I imagine Phil Lynott was right, "Man, You don't stand a chance/If you go down in Chinatown", though I think Phil was thinking something completely different.
