87 Led Zeppelin songs ranked from 'worst' to 'first'

    http://www.spin.com/articles/led-zep...ry-song-ranked

There will be disagreements (I have plenty myself... "How Many More Times" at #65???) but it's a fun read still.

D'Yer Mak'Er at 36?!? Just how much industrial-strength narcotics do you need to have ingested to put D'Yer Mak'Er at 36?

    They're all #87 to me.

I'd say about the standard dose that Jimmy Page would have taken circa 1977?

Are you saying it's ranked too high, or too low?

The Rain Song below Fool in the Rain and Heartbreaker? Please!

Also, way too much love for In Through the Outdoors.

I cannot support this thread. The list was plagiarized from a previous list of the 87 blues songs ranked from "worst" to "first."

Well, anybody can write some text and make some rankings.

Pretty good list. I too have great love for The Rain Song but I get how a rocker beats out a ballad on these sort of lists

My experience with Led Zeppelin's music is so visceral and mood driven, analytically quantifying their songs seems absurd.

I would have switched #41 & #42, not sure what they were thinking there... but otherwise, they're spot on.

Other day I was driving with the radio on (a dangerous prospect in these vapid times), and the DJ announced that the latest in the newest series of Led Zeppelin reissues are to be released soon. She said the latest are "Led Zeppelin IV" and "Houses of the Holly." She did not know that she mispronounced "Holy." Maybe she is unfamiliar with the Zeppelin catalog, in which case, playing records on a classic rock station is probably not the best job fit.

I do actually get the reasoning for Over The Hills at #1. It kind of is LZ in one 5 minute burst. But as pointed out, a lot of the rankings are nuts- ItdOD is mostly too high and Presence is too low (apart from the couple clear stinkers on it). Well, except of course for that always wildly overrated track, Achilles Last Stand. 30 seconds of decent riff padded to 10 minutes and a terrible vocal. Discuss.

Fool in the rain at #5? WTF!!!!

Interesting list but I think almost everyone including Zepp fans would disagree with a lot of it.

I actually think ITTOD is probably the most under rated and under appreciated LZ album but even I have to scratch my head at "fool in the rain" at number five plus some of the others.

I didn't see Jennings Farm Blues on the list. If you're going to list songs off the reissues like La La, you've got to include it. And rank it fairly high.

Yeah, but it's really not well arranged. The section with the guitar solo comes off as a forced way to get into a minor key for a guitar solo. Then coming out of it to get back to the major verse sounds downright clumsy. Just not one of their best efforts, IMO. It has some great dynamics but if that is #1 then the reviewer is utterly clueless about Zep's better songwriting, IMO.

I wouldn't call the vocal "terrible" but it's rough. Understandable given the circumstances. I like the opening chords and the riff but agree that this one is generally overrated by Zep fans. The idea is interesting and the variations cool, but I can certainly understand the argument that it is all sort of bled to death.

I don't disagree... it's a decent song but not my fav by a longshot.
