I would like to hear it, but so far his stuff hasn't really grabbed me. I'm not crazy about his guitar tone, and there isn't anything beyond the hyper technical aspect of the music that moves me at all. I've listened to [sic], and the two tracks on the Abstract Logix Live set.

I was thinking Hergest Ridge doesn't have vocals but I was wrong, although they're not as prominent as they are on TB and 'Ommadawn'.

The title track? Plus a bit of talking (samples?) on 'Mare Tranquillitatis'. And of course, the Speaking Clock!

Has anyone mentioned 'Metal Machine Music'?

Well, If you're into Avant prog you are bound to end up with the usual suspects

UZ- Ceux du Dehors is probably the best instrumental album ever made (apart from some classical recordings)

When Machacek's first album came out in '99, he was prominently wearing his influences on his sleeve, Holdsworth and Zappa. Since then, I think he's come into his own, though you can still hear where he came from. I think he's a very talented and accomplished musician with a lot of scope. "24 Tales" is different than anything else he's done; it's about 80% thoroughly composed. It's pretty complex and dense stuff and there's a lot to absorb. I think it's great!

I just ordered a copy, along with FAT (love the rhythm section on this) and the duo album w/ Gary Husband after listening to some promos and other clips on YouTube.

More kindred spirits going on! However (and I'll beat Scrotum to the punch ) the first Anglagard record, "Hybris", contains vocals.
Though for me, I listen to that album for the music, and not the vocals.

I honestly don't remember this being instrumental but I could be wrong. I remember thinking it was a cross between post rock and Syd era Floyd. Very good stuff regardless.

Future Kings is instrumental. Good stuff, too! I'm finding I just can't keep up with all the great instrumental releases out there. I would definitely love to an instrumental album, too. Leave the vocal albums to people who can actually sing.

I still have to check out Blast. I am Dutch and this is a Dutch band but I only found out of the bands existence a few months ago. :-(

Then start with Stringy Rugs and prepare to be amazed! Impeccably dense charts, yet groovy as hell and quite fun to boot. Dave Kerman is on 3/4 of this. Band leader Dirk Bruinsma also had (or has?) three other projects worth a note; Otolithen (multi-duo playing with mechanical gadgets to execute full ensemble sound), Positive Nuns (faux mathcore trio with Jim Meneses; only released one GREAT album with Bob Drake producing) and Brown Vs. Brown (like a more rockin' version of Blast, only with more vocals).
