What's next, the top ten prog bands according to Sports Illustrated.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE GROUPS!
Hardly a sophisticated commentary, but at least there's no reference to the standard 'punk great, prog crap' orthodoxy that still perpetuates in non-specialist journalism.
I would say this is probably the best article ever written about prog, lotsa substance and meat on dem bones...
...okay, it's pretty lame. Sorry!
Why the hell isn't Van Otterdyke featured on that list?!
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
I LOVE Van Otterdyke!
Must have been a quiet afternoon in Glasgow.....either that, or they're running out of Referendum stories
That's actually not a bad list. One could quibble about the order, but as long as you're including proto-prog most of those bands deserve to be there. I'd probably swap Focus for Camel or somebody else, but that's just me.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.
more mayonnaise on wonder bread please
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
No Styx? It is a joke!
"I consider Styx to be in the vein of YES and the cutting edge of prog-rock in America.” - Chris Squire.

The list aside, this has to be the first time EVER Fripp has been called charismatic!!!
maybe prog magazines & groups should publish their own lists, like: best hip hop bands, rap songs, boy bands, video tits, cheeseburgers, etc...
^The off-topic forum here used to be like that.
That list is as valid as anyone else's. I would have them in a different order, a couple I would have left off, but I'm OK with it. On the other hand it's not saying much that's new.
Top Ten Symph bands in the limited region of Britain
what the list *really* is
complete ignorance

^More constructively, Mr Traveller, would you like to supply your own list of Top 10 prog bands, as a means of illustrating your own interpretation of 'progressive'?
