NFL Wants Musicians to Pay for the Honor of Playing the Super Bowl

    LOL

I hope no one agrees and for once it will be an enjoyable halftime.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

So... the Super Bowl half-time show will go to the highest bidder? That's just great. But then again, I never enjoyed it anyway. I hate that it exists. I wished it would stop.

Well, the chances off that happen are about the same chances the Cleveland Browns have of getting into the Super Bowl, which is somewhere between slim and none at all.

I feel for the poor owners of NFL teams. It must be tough living the life none of us could ever dream of. So much so that they need to charge artists to play.

Those billions they make just aren't enough. Poor, sad fellows.

Strange the NFL didn't think of it before... they charge for exposure via commercials, why not for hogging time during the half-time??

I never cared for NFL halftime (not even for Janet's nipple), so I couldn't give less of a hoot...

it's not like the artiste that played the NFL HT spot were having problems meeting both ends at the end of the month, right?? It's pure annoying crud from music můillionaires in 95% of the cases anyway, so making them pay for a chance to get even more exposure sounds like good business tactics...

Now, if the NFL gave Thinking Plague or Anglagard a shot at its HT show, I'd probably think different.

I predict that large companies like Coca Cola will 'sponsor' the halftime show in exchange for product placement and getting the artist to do an actual TV commercial to endorse their product. So the artist won't "pay" to do the halftime show, they'll just plug some product in exchange.

They make you pay full price for the last pre season game with only rookies playing.

+1...I gave up on that sport many years ago. I just don't have 3 consecutive, spare hours to stare at a screen. And the Superbowl is just one big Ad campaign.

This is exactly what will happen, and I'm sure the NFL knew it when they came up with the plan.

Ironically, won't it end up being the same bands they've always had?

Doesn't Pepsi or some other insipid brand already pay for "naming rights" to the halftime show?

I believe so. They probably covered production costs and maybe accommodations for the artist, if I were to speculate.

Agreed. And any band that participates in this nonsense should feel thoroughly ashamed of itself - although I would probably at least get a laugh out of "Viagra presents (Rolling Stones/Paul McCartney/Billy Joel, etc.)".

    Here we go….

Before the argument starts, many musicians already have sold themselves to the corporate ladder once they signed an endorsement deal.

Well, if they have the right amount of $$$

I bet this gal has enough cash to buy into one Super Bowl…

Maybe they should just revive "Up with People"?

I got it, marching bands. Except I want the infamous Stanford Marching Band doing a Zappa medley.

They want artists to pay to prance around onstage to prerecorded music broadcast at the stuporbowl halftime show?

Can you imagine if the entire prog world pooled resources to buy the time? It would be only 1 song... and the second half would be delayed by 20 minutes!

Six months later, I can't remember who played the halftime show in February's Super Bowl. They think bands want to pay to not be remembered?

Clearly, they are not greasing the right palms.

Why stop at halftime entertainment? Why not have the two teams that come up with the most cash play in the Super Bowl?
