Very good track. :up
It cannot be denied that Martin Turner is a founding member of his solo band.
The things that influence my listening ? In no particular order...
Algorithms. Universal cosmic convergence. My neighbour's enthusiastic use of noisy engines. Boredom. The feeling of standing at...
Well, with Joe Lynn Turner and James LaBrie in the album lineup, we probably shouldn't expect subtle vocal performances. At least JLT seems to have tried to sing softly to an extent.
Best wishes to Joe Parrish-James anyway. Being in Tull must be an interesting experience for a young musician, but also a frustrating one, because I guess there's not much room for creativity.
It is the perfect time for Tony Iommi to come back.
I never tried to growl into a flute but Ian may make something interesting out of it.
Thanks for sharing the videos.
I'm not expecting great things from this collection of songs (and I may be wrong of course), but it's good at least to hear something new and to see all the remaining...
'Van der Graaf Generator. Why all the nuance ?'
Sean that was a great, heartfelt piece of writing.
Happy birthday and most of all thanks for creating this place !
I will probably never meet anyone here in person, but it feels like a safe place...
Great interview (as always !).
What a great drummer SP is. He makes everything flow and sound simple.
I look forward to the Rick Wakeman Avatar show with virtual curry and brand new AI-generated jokes.
Another video I look forward to watching. Like all the other posters I love your documentaries. Best wishes for 2024 to you and everyone here by the way.
I love DG's first solo album, at least for personal reasons. It's a perfect 'quiet winter day' album, it has a soothing effect on me. Maybe not his most elaborate songwriting, and it may qualify as a...
A lot of interesting music in this thread, thanks for sharing !
I absolutely love Morton salt, I find your comment deeply offensive.
I'm looking forward to it, although I haven't fully digested the previous albums yet (partly because of that slight shift in the band's sound and songwriting).
Recruiting Alberto Bravin as a...
They should advertise themselves as a new supergroup featuring Alex Lifeson (Victor, Envy Of None) and Geddy Lee (My Favorite Headache).
I choose to leave PF out of this. All of this Waters-related stuff leads me to concentrate even more on what brings me joy in those old PF records. It was such a fragile and temporary combination of...
Now that I think about it, I never received any personal notification or explanation when there were line-up changes in my favorite bands. Denial of basic human rights.
I'm not following them closely anymore, but it seems their last two albums have been well received. It's not like they need Portnoy at this point, but the reunion could give the band some extra...
I would add Breaking All Illusions, because it has a nice flow, something that I often miss in DT compositions.
Interesting. Thanks !
When I listen to THC, I keep expecting some rock elements that don't come. I'm getting used to that.
The music often feels closer to the No-Man universe than to Porcupine Tree or his previous solo...
I'm also underwhelmed and can't bring myself to listen to it again. I like the sounds, the textures, the solos, but the tracks just don't grab me.
And yes, the artwork on the standard edition CD is...
The first seven ones have a special place in my heart, as they were released during my teenage years. They looked and sounded badass, heavy but somehow ambitious and interesting. It was a great...
I liked this one. The "Free Four" lyrics work quite well here, and I like the soundscape, including the slightly psychedelic-sounding organ.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
My guess is that the real creator of the artwork is Don Azzaro.
Like other people here I refrain from listening to individual tracks in this case.
My favorite SW solo album is HCE and I love the way it works as a whole, combining pop songs, rock songs, proggy...
So I guess there are two versions of It Bites now ?
Great artwork too.
It exists beyond any conceivable notion. It may even transcend the notion of existence itself.
I look forward to hearing Steve Howe sing on every possible album. Rock, classical, jazz - it will be awesome.
The overall laid back feeling is interesting. There are some nice little things in the arrangements, but I'm not sure this minimalistic approach really works with Waters' vocals.
He doesn't sound...
I would listen to Zappa's Willie The Pimp sung by Jon Anderson.
My first two Rush albums were Caress Of Steel and Hold Your Fire. Very different animals obviously.
I connected with HYF because it sounded more mature to my ears, and at the time the production...
My introduction to Yes was unusual. As a teenager I discovered the existence of the band with Owner and its big success. I heard someone say that it was a new incarnation of an old 70s band. In...
It's almost impossible indeed, but you managed to write a concise and interesting review. Well done.
That's what I was thinking too. If the instrumentation is more predictable, it may be a difficult path because it will lead to more comparisons with the original.
Anyway, the original is such a...
Gilmour said in the past that Waters wrote all the lyrics and a fair amount of the music to DSOTM, and he thanked him for the lyrics when the post-Waters Floyd toured DSOTM in the 90s, so I'm not...
Waters tends to strip down the musical landscape and rely mostly on his words and voice. He has been consistent with this in his latest releases.
So the question is : are his words and voice strong...
Some people here probably have, or have had a passionate relationship with everything Floyd-related. It is the case, at least, for me, and I'm still interested in whatever music or words Waters...
Yes, but McCartney is an entertainer, like Gilmour, whereas Waters, like Lennon, is an artist (and a creative genius, of course). Waters doesn't have to be prolific, he's just relevant and important....
Thanks for sharing. Waters keeps digging indeed.
And the comparison with Trump is interesting too, without getting into political content.
To my ears he's doing more damage to his legacy with...
Does he really do that ? Samson's tweet was a low point, as were some of Waters' past comments, and I thought it couldn't get much lower.
I think it's interesting. Very self-indulgent, as anyone would expect from Waters, and not something I would want to come back to, but this version captures the spirit of the original while creating...
Not bad, although you can tell Phil's heart is not fully into it. I prefer the Peter Gabriel version of CAS as a whole. Trespass with Ray Wilson is awesome by the way.
Thanks for the documentary. I look forward to watching it.
AHM was the first album I really listened to in my childhood, after hearing a few pop singles, and it was a revelation. It felt ambitious,...
This thread is going to hell... People admit they own Identity and Profiles, someone spells Gilmour wrong... where are we going ?
Regarding Wet Dream, I used to think about making a fake PF album...
Has anyone ever read anything about the music RW seemed to be working on when he passed away ? There was talk of a piano based album.
Of course I would be interested in hearing it if anything was...
I think Somewhere Else is a strong album, but, unlike most Marillion albums, it doesn't have a strong ending. The closing tracks lack intensity. The second half of The Wound doesn't go anywhere, The...
I'm not in yet. The true Marillion is yet to come.
I completely respect your opinion and I felt this magic too in the original band. That being said, that magic was spectacular in the context of the late 80s and the first half of the 90s, because the...
I find that your opinion on the LaTorre era doesn't do it justice, but I won't try to convince you. Tate in his prime had indeed more subtlety and charisma than LaTorre, but I won't say that TLT is...
Well, if what defines Queensryche is the chemistry between the original members, then that chemistry was arguably already gone before 1999, before De Garmo left IMO (and his brief return for Tribe...
There may have been some deeply rooted habits of criticising each other's musical ability within the band. Waters also complained that the others made fun of him, although one can imagine it was...
Thanks, it is a pleasant read and I agree with most of what you wrote.
You sum things up quite well by writing that the album sounds too much and too little like Pink Floyd at the same time.
At the...
Great interview, congratulations ! Steve Howe's enthusiasm is inspiring.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I keep discovering artists from my own country - some of which almost live next door - thanks to american people on this forum. :)
