Also, is anyone here going to see Abacab instead of the pre-show at Local 506?
Just wondering, with Mick Brockett still with the band what will his role be with the band playing outdoors....
In case your looking for one of Kayak's wonderful classic tracks, Ballad for a Lost Friend, I could only find it on the album, Golden Years of Dutch Pop Music. The album btw is not Pop but mostly...
Your right! I didn't know that. Verified by Google. Since your from their country you should know.
I just LOVE their first, Kayak s/t album! Just as good as RBB (which is great too) if not better. Very progressive and enjoyable IMO.
Sunday my wife and I saw 3 Austin prog bands for the outrageous price of..........$0.00. The bands were Black Ladder, Big Sky Collective, Opposite Day, in a small outdoor club. The bands were...
I was at this gig! The Agora was a wonderful venure for shows, small and up close for any show. He played much of "Voyage" from what I remember. Nick Magnus keys were very impressive!
Thank you for the corrections. I should have done more research.
I just remember Ars Nova at ProgDay 2001, Gerard at Nearfest 2002 then Ars Nova again at Baja 2003 (two keyboardists and Akiko)....
Apparently no one remembers festival performances by:
Ars Nova (Progday)
Gerard (Nearfest)
What about the other Rush from Canada:
Mahogany Rush (Loudest band I ever saw live)
Cream were...
^ Cool, thanks!
Totally agree. Saw them Saturday night at H-E-B Center north of Austin. Very impressed with the band's sound and the venue's acoustics. Every instrument, note, drum & cymbal hit was crisply and...

It was great meeting you and Eli at the fest. Thanks for the crab dip recipe as well!
Mattias is back!!! Awesome! He must love this fest....
BTW, how many bands has he been with now. :O
I always thought that Yanni's first album "Keys To Imagination" was a bit proggy.
Listening to their album, Computant now. Very, very good. Excellent drummer. Could be as good as Soften the Glare, my favourite band, from last year!
This is obvious from videos of the current Royal Affair Tour.
I remember bringing my wife to Nearfest in 2004 and seeing The Musical Box on Friday nite. We had excellent center seats just a few rows back. She was born and raised in Thailand and had never seen a...
I never tire of "trons, organs & flutes".
Right, therefore we can be thankful there will be no repeat of the skinny-dipping at the nearby lake.
Actually, Steve performed at the Agora Ballroom in Dallas on Nov 22, 1981 on his "Cured" tour. I was there and it was awesome! Hasn't performed here since that I know of.
Does the keyboard player wearing a cape classify a band as Progressive Rock?
Thank you all for your Japanese Symph-Prog recommendations. I am also pleased to prompt the hard to find addition to aith01's music collection.
Love Mugen. Sinfonia Della Luna is quite good as well. Beautiful mellotron. Anyone know any other Japanese symphonic prog like Mugen?
Correct! Here's more details from Geddy himself:
...
Okay maybe he's not fusioney enough but since I love symphonic prog so much, plus the need to add classically trained violinists to this thread, I have to mention Robbie Steinhardt. Not many solos...
Argus blew me away when I first heard it. Enjoy their first two as well but I think "There's The Rub" is just as good as Argus.
Even though the focus is on the twin leads I love Martin Turner's...
In anticipation of this year's event, I have recently uploaded to youtube videos I took of four bands from last year's ProgDay:
iNFiNiAN 3:31 min.
BUBBLEMATH 42:10 min.
EPHEMERAL SUN 26:59 min....
How bout adding some keys to the mix. My wife is Thai as well and she dug this up:

They are performing at Progtoberfest III in Chicago on Sat Oct 21 along with many other amazing prog bands for the 3-day fest.
Have you heard any other rock guitarist play the lute?
I really dig Jan's work with the medieval instrument on Profile and Tabernakel. His playing is goosebump city for me!!
The Austin band Thirteen of Everything is looking for a lead guitarist in the Fripp/Hackett style. If interested, read more and contact the band at the this link:

Yes they are working on their fourth album. Just check out the bottom of their http://www.anglagardfanclub.com/ home page.
If you love symphonic prog as I do you'll love Proud Peasant. Here's a selection from the first VoyagerFest:

Herd of Instinct performed at ProgDay 2013.
I've posted about this fest before but now that ProgDay is over and this festival is coming up in two weekends there might be some here that are interested.
It's called the Voyager Music Festival...
Finally! A Prog Fest I don't have to drive or fly thousands of miles to attend.
It's in Austin and it's called the Voyager Music Festival or VoyagerFest.
Went to the 1st 1-day fest last year...
If your into WOV like me you need to check out this excellent live YT video of their appearance at the US festival in '83. Ridgway, Nanini and Noland all left the band right after this gig.
...
Ditto!! And thanks for the update on Bill, Mike. Hope TP can play in the DFW area in near future!
Bob
Mike, I read recently that Bill Pohl had joined TP. Is this still the case? You have not mentioned him at all. If so, what would be his role in the band being a second guitarist and all. I live in...
Mr Pariah, I'm in Little Elm so we're not too far apart. I'm always looking for fellow prog lovers in our area. So far the only one I know lives west of Ft Worth! Let me know if you would want to...
What about their first album!! Because of one track, "Apercu" I would have to rank this album right up there as one of their best!
Accidentally came across this excellent youtube video documentary of the Moodies in their prime at the Isle of Wright Festival in 1970. It is almost 1hr 19min long with comments from all members of...
This is great news! Thanks Pook1973 for looking into this and Steve for your background with this wonderful event. I will be looking forward to that link.
Thanks for responding Steve.
I just called the Official Hotel - Comfort Inn Durham, local number, and the reservations agent I spoke to (Robert) was not aware of a ProgDay rate. He even asked his manager about it. He was even...
La Maschera di Cera - Le Porte del Domani
