I also agree with this completely :)
Thank you .... I was completely unaware of that
High praise indeed, coming from a terrific bass player ... out of curiosity, when did John Wetton work with Phil?
I had really high hopes for it, and I really wanted to like it .... but instrumental parts are certainly lacking, which is a shame
I have listened to Invention of Knowledge about 10 times now, and I have to say that I just can't get warmed up to it.
It's all personal taste, of course, but I find it too wordy and - I hate to...
It was available on VHS, but I don't think it ever made it to DVD ....

Lightfoot had a terrific bass player on his first 4 or so albums - John Stockfish - who sadly died a couple of years ago.
I was very sad when he left and was replaced with the current bassist....
I always find these types of discussions pointless .... trying to name the greatest piece of music ever written just becomes a popularity contest .... there are so many wonderful pieces of music...
I have always felt that Moon and Entwistle were hugely over-rated, especially Entwistle .... I think the Who has a far better bassist now, in Pino Palladino
Their website indicates that the original drummer, Ron Bushy, is still a member of the band (although on medical leave)
I saw him in concert several times in the late 70's and through the 80's .... he always put on a great show.
He is actually a very accomplished guitarist
it was mentioned in post 5
don't bother clicking on it ... it is a tasteless recreation of an iconic solo (IMHO)
The Technics SL-1200 Mk2 turntable has adjustable VTA
The SACD is the one to get, if you can find it

- CD players have come a long way. A $200 player today will sound better than a $1000 player 5 years ago. Definitely replace it.
- An old amp may still sound damn good,...
Sansui was a very highly regarded name in the seventies.
The 4000 and 6060 are receivers - receivers having the power amp, preamp and tuner all in one package.
Sansui's integrated amps (preamp...

it is Swedish for "mischief" or "prank"
The bass players always get the short end of the stick :(
yes indeed, the same
I have always considered John Wetton to be a tremendous, and under-rated, bassist..... at the same time (since he has been mentioned in this thread a few times) I have always thought that John...
I am curious how the OP has the equipment connected.... you have a tube preamp and a solid state power amp... where in the chain have you connected the X-10D tube buffer? Between the CD player and...
Yes, it is a great album.... I come back to it quite often.
That concert was also in a small club in Toronto, called the Phoenix, and everything about it was great - the songs, the sound, and we...
I think the bass playing in "21st Century Schizoid Man" on the first KC album is just great
Jimi Hendrix "Fire" - right at the end, just before the fadeout, Noel Redding plays the wrong bass part - he starts to play the beginning riff again but then realizes his mistake
I have seen Al Stewart twice in concert... once with Dave Nachmanoff in a small club a couple of years ago, and once with a full band when he was touring for his "Last Days of the Century" album in...
This has always been one of my very favourite pieces...
thank you for all the suggestions :)
I am looking to give someone a birthday present, and I am looking for a list of Prog CDs that also come with a DVD (preferably a live concert).
One that comes to mind, for example, is IQ's...
No one has mentioned Beck's Bolero by Jeff Beck, so I will.
I'll also add:
Gong - Expresso
Spock's Beard - Skeletons at the Feast
Frost* - Hyperventilate
no need to explain really - I am a bassist myself - I just wanted to point out that Jack Bruce used one as his bass in Cream before he settled on the Gibson EB-3
Incidentally, Jack Bruce used a Fender Bass VI in the early days of Cream2939
Call me old school, but for me there are 2 classic Christmas films:
A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim
Miracle on 34th Street (the original with Edmund Gwenn and Maureen O"Hara)
yes, he is indeed a terrific guitarist
I mean, really... can these people be considered as musicians?
these people are musicians?
My list is ridiculously small, compared to others. I had long chats with all of them, except Zubin Mehta (who was in a hurry to be somewhere), and all of them were very nice:
Roine Stolt

I have the Camel DVD "Total Pressure" in my collection and I can confirm that it does indeed include Lady Fantasy, as well as the 4 bonus tracks and the interview with Andy Latimer
according to Roxymusic.com, Alan Spenner played on the albums Manifesto, Flesh and Blood and Avalon, and I also read that he was on The High Road DVD.
I could burn you a copy if you like - I live not so far from you
Yes, he is German - he's from Berlin
good news indeed - I love Andy's guitar playing
It is probably my favourite of the post-Rabin years as well (in fact, I probably like it better than any of the Rabin era albums for that matter). I also found it to have a particularly good sound...
I have the original DVD release, which I bought a few years ago. One thing that I particularly noticed was John Wetton's exceptional bass playing - he really is an excellent bassist
