I've heard that it's actually really good, from a source that I trust (who is usually a lot more critical than I am). It surprised me.
Being as inundated with media as we are nowadays, it's not...
:lol
:lol I know TWD has its fans and I won't diss the show for that reason. But some of the creative decisions that the writers/showrunners made were baffling to me. I dropped the show after a couple...
The prologue is not the story. You've seen one single episode, and you're telling me I'm wrong about the story of the overall series (or the games on which it's based)?
Yeah okay, whatever dude....
Except no, that's not the story. That's the setting. The story takes place ~20 years later, and is very specifically about two characters as they journey across the wasteland that used to be the USA...
Originality in setting and originality in story are two different things. The setting does not have to be wholly original for the story to be original (or even just good).
I would also argue that...
Speaking for what I know about the games that the show is based on, the setting isn't really as important as the characters and how they change over the course of the journey. Of course it's not...
This is one reason why I don't like Rotten Tomatoes. They reduce reviews down to a binary metric, and IMO that doesn't work for something that is often subjective (like a film).
Everyone I've talked to who has seen it liked it, so maybe Rotten Tomatoes was not hacked and you just don't like that movie. :lol
Oh interesting, I didn't realize it was based on a Gibson book. I might check it out then.
Would you have preferred her to say “mum” instead?
You're right, and I love the idea of Guzman as Gomez. It seems truer to the original source material than the TV sitcom with John Astin (as much as I liked Astin in the role, and in general).
Really saddened to read about her diagnosis and the trouble she's going through now. :(
But man, major respect to her for finishing that season. That is commitment.
Broadchurch was indeed excellent. All three series of it were great. I should rewatch it.
That series disappointed me, although it improves a bit in the final stretch — but not enough to save it overall. The reveal about Reva was pretty cool though.
Kid Leia was the best part of the...
Oh I'm not denying that. I don't agree with the things she said; her comments and posts were already bad/misguided/unhinged enough as it is. Some of the "reporting" on it is just inaccurately calling...
What she said wasn't actually anti-Semitic though.
Yeah. Not all of us can live in Arizona. ;)
It is interesting the widely varying opinions on Picard and Discovery. I haven't watched either myself, but I'm interested in seeing where I fall in that statistic. :D
It's not causing me any angst actually. :lol However, it does surprise me to see this kind of thing coming from you.
Whatever. You're wrong about golf, but that's a small thing in the grand scheme...
That's not a very good argument; not every sport requires running or jumping. You try walking a golf course in summer heat and keeping your concentration and stamina up enough to be able to focus on...
Patently false, I'm afraid. Regardless of what you think about Tiger Woods, this statement is just not true.
Take it from someone who has played golf and taken lessons in their youth. It is a...
1) Ginger
2) Jeannie
3) Bailey
I grew up watching the re-runs of those shows, so I was a little late to the game. But those have always been my preferences. :lol
As for Thandie vs. Zoe,...
Zoe
I can't be the only one here, surely... :lol
That's the one. ;)
I enjoyed the Mandalorian and the new movies. The Mandalorian is very different from all the Star Wars movies, which isn't a bad thing at all.
I didn't meant to imply that there was any judgment on your part. Just when moecurlythanu quoted our comments together it was coincidentally humorous because of what it looked like we were saying....
Yeah... Not really where I was going with that. :lol
I thought about watching it after seeing a little bit, but my brother and his wife watched the show and while she liked it he was not a fan. The way he described it to me was that it's pure emotional...
You monster! :yell
:lol Just kidding. But Baby Yoda was so adorable, and the tenderness of the Mandalorian (who is a pretty rough dude) towards him was one of my favorite aspects of the show.

Oh man, I highly recommend the graphic novel. If you enjoyed the movie, I think you'll appreciate the book a lot.
I agree about it having big shoes to fill, so I'm a little nervous about it. But I...
Being a fan of the original graphic novel, the idea of a sequel TV series is fascinating to me. I hope its good.
In all fairness, most things nowadays that are Lovecraftian are sans the racism and xenophobia. Even though those are part of what fueled Lovecraft’s writing and what shaped his stories into what...
I think the lighter, more humorous tone was intentional. It reflected the summer setting, with bright colors, kids being out of school and hanging out at the mall or at the pool. The aesthetic was...
^ The Goldbergs is a funny show. :D
Same here. This was easily my favorite season. I thought it was scarier and grosser (and funnier) than the previous two. The influence of John Carpenter's "The Thing" (and maybe some Cronenberg too)...
Legion and Stranger Things are tied as my favorite current TV series bar none. Legion is brilliantly weird and at times incredibly disturbing. But also really funny sometimes! Nothing else quite like...
I was trying not to watch the new trailer because I wanted to keep things as fresh as possible when it premiered -- but last night I caved and watched it anyway. :lol
Glad I did! It looks like...
Oh man, I loved Endeavour. So glad it's back for another season. :ipa
You're not the only one. :lol
The only one I recall is David Bradley (Walder Frey). :lol Who are the others?
All three series are excellent, IMO. I started watching it before the second series aired, so I had to wait between each one. :lol
That entire cast was pretty terrific, but Colman, Tennant, and...
Thanks for sharing, Geez. I enjoyed that. :ipa
^ Is that based on the movie Hanna, with Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett that came out a few years ago?
Yes, thank you for saying this. :ipa
I was born in 1984, so my 80s experience was limited to the latter half -- but I still enjoy the nostalgia. :)
Hard to believe we're talking about the same show here.
Same here. I never thought we'd get a mainstream TV show that deals with kids going up against Lovecraftian horrors from a parallel dimension. The Duffer brothers really leaned into that aspect with...
Sounds like it's just not for you then.
^ Yes, this. No offense to the Greta Van Fleet guys, but their frontman is no Robert Plant, IMO.
I'm glad they seem to have a lot of affection for the 1970s music, but their stuff just isn't my...
Definitely. :up
Yes, Luther was an excellent series. Idris Elba is simply terrific in that one. :up
:up Loved Justified as well. Just watched the entire series through from beginning to end with my parents about two years ago.
And I'm with you on Boyd Crowder. He does some pretty terrible...
For sure, The Eric Andre Show is often beyond bizarre. Sometimes it's pure genius. :lol
Awesome! I love that show. :ipa
Maybe try out Legion, if you haven't already. It definitely gets trippy in quite a few places -- and season 2 is supposed to be starting soon, I think!
Totally understandable. I was just wanting to provide some context, in case you weren't familiar with the source material it was based on. :)
And the book is very good; One of Simmons' best, IMO.
