Elke Schlimbach has notified me that she does not wish to use social media in her attempts to sell items of Helmut Koellen's anymore. Please disregard this thread in the future.

I am assisting the sister of the late progressive rock musician/singer/songwriter Helmut Koellen-her name is Elke Schlimbach-in selling some personal items of Helmut's that she has had in her...
I found out the Juergen Fritz unplugged concert has been cancelled; sheesh! A Triumvirat fan on the facebook group for the band put it aptly, "Just like 45 years ago"
I am not a musician, but I am pleased to see a tip of the hat to Helmut Koellen for his use of it, on the two Triumvirat albums featuring him, he nails it like nobody!
Fieger did record a version of the then new Triumvirat single "Take A Break Today", as did Barry Palmer. It was an attempt at a radio friendly single, but didn't go anywhere. Fieger also had some...
Thanks so much!
Thanks for taking an interest and for your comments, and glad I could be of service to a fellow Triumvirat admirer.
yes, he did, I mention so in my documentary. In December of 1975, he joined Triumvirat, but did not stay very long.
Here is a mini documentary I created about Triumvirat- http://youtu.be/z05ajhfI43M
Thought I would start a thread on one of my favorite progressive artists (and one of the most obscure) the jazz rock fusion band Giger Lenz Marron, named for the last names of the three...
Love the Ambrosia debut album so much! The other ones don't really grab me like the debut, though. These videos are cool!
I have it.It is ok, but not in the league of classic Triumvirat, either.
Thanks for the information; that is interesting. I'm sure you would know this, but some others maybe not, the sister of Triumvirat lead singer and guitarist Helmut Koellen, Elke Schlimbach, has done...
Especially when he is given a lot of room to breath, in some of the longer Triumvirat compositions, Juergen Fritz displays an astonishingly unique and unmatchable quality in his playing.
yes, he has been active for years as a keys player for the Tommy Engel Band in Germany, but yeah, not prog in any way. He, much to the dismay of Triumvirat fans, has distanced himself from that...
Thanks for your reply. I find some of Sibelius's symphonies rather personally inaccessible , like the 3rd and 6th, especially. But that is just me. When it comes to appreciating all the symphonic...
I am a big fan of my fave album of theirs, Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music; it says it all in the title of that album!
Oh, no! And I had just listened to Free Hand in it's entirety. What a brilliant musician he was. RIP.
His 1st, 2nd and 7th Symphonies are essential. In terms of interpreters, I would highly recommend the recordings of either Sir Malcolm Sargent or Dr. Serge Koussevitzky.
Juergen Fritz of Triumvirat is my all time favorite. I also like Juergen Dollase, Kristian Schultze, Tony Pagliuca, Eddie Spence, and Dave Greenslade a lot.
This sounds like an exciting release-I have to have it!
Released in March of 1974 in Europe, and in North America in August of 1974, my prog guiding light, Triumvirat's Illusions On A Double Dimple, finally put the band on the musical map!
ELP-Ottawa Congress Center, Jan. 1993
Pat Travers with the Outlaws, Dec. 1978, Massey Hall, Toronto
Rush with Max Webster, Ottawa Civic Center, April 1978
Styx with Prism, Ottawa Civic Center,...
I do know someone who has a copy, but I cannot pass it on. Sorry. Maybe the full thing will see the light of day on yt, but not from me...
Mr. Fritz told Russ Schenewerk, during a long conversation, that he "doesn't get sentimental about Triumvirat", and that he did not want The Website Story to be "the Son of Spartacus". I get the...
I heard the unreleased album, and was not impressed; doesn't sound like Triumvirat much, at all, but like movie music from the year it was made (2002), and it is definitely not progressive.
There are, as people have noted, various ways of pronouncing. I have heard "tree-um-vir-at" from folks in America, and from Europe, "tri-oom-veer-ah"! Does it matter? Not, really; what is in a name,...
This place is in dire need of some more Triumvirat threads, so here I go. The band was formed exactly 50 years ago, in Cologne. Hard to believe it has been that long. One thing I know for certain is...
I will always remember him the most for his singing on Dick Heckstall-Smith's solo album from 1972, A Story Ended. RIP.
I have finally received and heard this CD. Alas, it isn't really an improvement over other versions, sound wise. Still, the gatefold photo/artwork is pretty cool.
My favorite song by Banco, as well! Deeply moving and emotional.
Has anybody heard this boot, which I saw for the first time on the net a few days ago, and dutifully ordered? If so, how does it compare soundwise with other pressings of these concerts?

Don't know how I missed this thread. 7 pages, and no mention of my favorite, Helmut Koellen. There, I rectified that!
My nicest memory of this place and the people in it, was when I posted my video mini documentary on Triumvirat, and got some lovely and very endearing responses. That warmed my heart, thank you so...
The beginning and ending of the Across the Waters suite on Triumvirat's debut album, Mediterranean Tales record is an adaptation of the overture to the opera "The Abduction Of The Seraglio" by Mozart.
Thanks for your responses, people. Fritz mentions pre Illusions radio and tv appearances, and also the same in America and wouldn't that be cool if such could be unearthed! (I mean apart from the...
Ditto on that; I did, and am I ever glad...
I found it in a local record shop in the late 80s, too, and what a discovery!
Guys, I don't agree with you observations about the band's music at all. Strange Days have an inimitable and unique atmosphere in their sound that makes them very special, and almost in a class by...
This was sent to me by Strange Day's keyboardist Eddie Spence.

Below are some links to an interview with Triumvirat's Juergen Fritz, taken from a book published in Germany, in German, in 1980 called "Rock Made In Germany" by Rainer Schroeder.
The top link...
Photos of him, especially on stage, are hard to find!
Just came across this for the first time, a rare photo of Triumvirat's Helmut Koellen

Awesome! I hope you enjoy what is for Triumvirat, their greatest record.
I made an error about the sample that is listed above; none of the soundcloud excerpts are from the NYC show, it is all...
Thank you very much for that, Dan Roth! Though they are just excerpts, what I hear is for the first time the real ending of the NYC concert from '74; the boot l have is missing the latter part of...

I love Ive's first three symphonies very much, the world premiere recordings of the 1st with Morton Gould conducting, the 2nd with F. Charles Adler conducting, and the 3rd with Eugene Ormandy...
I have come across this bootleg set available in Japan, but have never heard it; has anyone, and if so, have the recordings been cleaned up at all? How is the sound quality compared to previous...
^I guess, math wise, what I have isolated doesn't quite add up. I should explain, for a long time, I used to not collect that much at one time, and also had a bad habit of getting rid of things I had...
I am trying an experiment. Stop buying and spend a lot of time listening to what I already have. I have been lately buying, like, 15 to 20 CDs each week, but I realise that I need to take more time...
As opinions about music are so subjective, your impressions are just as valid as mine, even though we differ on this. (I guess if we all felt the same about things, it would be a pretty boring world)
No, it isn't. It is pretty good, not Triumvirat, but good.
Here is another rare Triumvirat photo, this being an advert for Laney Amplifiers, with a photo of the band in a German Festival in 1972.

Helmut Koellen of Triumvirat. He had just finished his solo album, a promising effort that also featured Juergen Fritz in production and keys playing, among others. I have always felt that the song...
Before he died, Triumvirat's bassist/vocalist Helmut Koellen was also involved as a race car driver.
An example of a great band that didn't get videos of their classic prog period distributed and known after their initial airing on television is Triumvirat.
Their legendary fall 1974 tour...
Just click on the photo for a larger version.
A facebook friend of mine, Hans-Juergen Ferdinand Schutte, posted a rare Triumvirat photo on fb showing Juergen Fritz at his keyboards during a live performance of Triumvirat in Krefeld, Germany in...
Hey, thanks! Was meaning to say the same about your posting...
