First, a short story.
I had been a audio purist in the sense that I only listened to music in my main audio room. A music ONLY room. But in recent years, ive upgraded my computer set up (32"...
My primary venue for music right now is music video. For that, video and sound quality are important. Going back to what I said about representing, its really hard to get too involved in watching...

Rediscovered this thread of mine and am really enjoying going through it again. Lots of nice ideas here. A point that keeps streaming through my mind as I do so is how important proper...
I can understand that dilemma. But thinking of people I know and myself, I have yet to ever hear of a trained ear complain about a recording being too dynamic. If you have had those complaints, I...
Just wondering why the decision to compress it so much? DR8?
Ditto for their entire discography.
Will it be available in hi-res?
Was without Bruford as well. Agree about Howe.

Wakeman like keys solo at end :)
OK, replace the word "strong" with "likeable". In any case, what one likes and doesn't is purely subjective, sure. But if were talking about melody, most would agree The Beatles were more melodic...
To steer things back towards my original intention for the thread, I picked Golden Caves, The Far Meadow and Moetar (to a lesser degree) as case points for what I was hunting because of the vocals. ...
You realize I am not saying it always is or has to be, right? But it does seem to me many bands have a particular focus. And strong melodies are not always at the top of their list.
Just a general thought...
I dont mind those features that make a track progressive or avant. But I dont want it to come at the expense of melody. Melody and expression are my two most important...
For what ever reason, never warmed up to TP. I am a fan of the later incarnations of TK though :)
Yea. Maybe my favorite in this genre for the 2010's. Wish they had a deeper discography. Nice avatar :)
Many bands by this name or similar. Can you be more specific?
Nice!
Those are good recommendations. I have already checked them out. This is a genre that I have spent a lot of time exploring. So older bands have probably hit my radar previously. That is why I...
This is about where I am at. Squire being a distant second in my book. Where Anderson shined was his song writing ability. I mean, anyone who can conceive a track like "Gates of Delerium" in a...
Me too. Are they still trying to sound like Pink Floyd I wonder?
Got bolded and like!
Cant find "infinian". Spelling?
Tease us more!

This is what their lead singer really looks like (in the video, she looks like she has been in a car accident :))
The Far...
You might give Haley Westenra a try. She sings in the same genre as Charlotte. I discovered her on Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres".

I think most folks around here are partial to "The Water Road". Personally, I like "One For Sorrow...". The newest "The Clockwork Universe" I haven't become that familiar with, but has the same...
Nice one!
Nice List, particularly those bolded.
Familiar with bolded. Checking out some of the others. Thanks.
Of those I didnt know about, Moetar interests me the most. A bit like some combination of Half-Past Four and District 97.
Its been almost a year. Is this really ever going to happen?
This is the one I will be waiting for.
In case a band member chimes in, I sure would like to see their material available in hi-res.
Thanks.
Where is Marc posting about this?
Any word on the official video release?
I see someone(s) has gone to great pains to remove all the bootleg video from that show :(

I wonder if its out of the realm of possibility that there will be an official audio release of this show.
Morning Bound. Nice! Look forward to their EP.
This statement is based on the albums I have come to like and heard many times.
Good point.
I think many of us key on certain elements when hunting new music. For instance if its vocals, and you hate the vocalist, its pretty likely that album is not for you.
Theoretically, you could like Barry Manilow and King Crimson equally in such a case :)
On prog albums, I don't sample tracks less than 4 minutes typically. When there is no title track, I usually defer to the longest track instead. In fact, I usually listen to the longest track first.
In that example, if you said you hated one, and liked either of the others, I would ask if you have checked your meds ;)
Perhaps the fault is mine. Let me restate it.
I listen to the first track, the last track, and the title track (and the longest track if its not already one the three already mentioned). If I...
I said the first track AND the last track AND the title track. Not just the first track.
But I will add that the longest track usually gets a listen as well.
No, the music isnt about stats. But finding it often is :)
I didnt say anything about representation. I also didnt claim there are no exceptions. I also didnt claim great songs are...
Let me ask this: How many albums have you ended up liking where you didn't like the first, the last or the title track?
Edit: Or the longest track.
As much music as I have already, I am pretty picky about new stuff. Generally, I sample the first, last and title tracks of an album. If none of those spark my interest, I move on.
Having listened to Ceremony, I couldn't call this rock or progressive. Music doesn't have to be either of these things to be good, obviously. What I like about it is the dominance of church organ...
Nice!
Looking further into her music.
Thx
Still have Retsam Suriv Danger?
Have a list somewhere what you take in trade for it?
Some CD's that I would give for it would be:
Canvas - Digital Pigeon
Joe Satriani - Not of This Earth...
I am a fan of his instrumental releases.
So whats the verdict?
True.
The chorus on the track "Chronos Deliverer" is quite nice, and a favorite.
