My wife cracks me up - she says when she was a kid she never understood why they didn't just kill Gilligan. Then they'd have gotten off the island! So simple...

Didn't even mention the most obvious. If the Professor can build just about anything from a couple of coconuts, why can't he patch a small hole in the SS Minnow?

BTW, if it's a three-day cruise, why did Thurston Howell bring suitcases of money? And Ginger brought all that clothing. I think there's more to it than meets the eye.

Oh, yeah, before anyone asks, Mary Ann by a mile.

Wrongway Feldman, I believe. An old pilot with a terrible sense of direction.

Yeah, I had to have seen every episode dozens of times. It was always on TV after school when I was growing up. Today, shows like this are much-needed, IMO. Simple, innocent humor. (Okay, well Ginger added some sluttiness, but she was really only a tease, anyway.) But, still. Compared to the garbage that kids watch today? UGH!

I liked the characters that Vito Scotti played. He played the evil baron on the other island. But, he also played a Japanese pilot stuck in WWII on a couple of episodes that would be considered inappropriate today.

When these shows were out, they were lambasted by the critics. Yet, they were very popular. Another one is "Green Acres." That show is hilarious. And you can't beat Vic Mizzy's soundtrack.

And thanks for that photo of Ms. Wells. Ginger may know more but Mary Ann would have been an eager student willing to please teacher!

I've been to Gilligan's Island. It's actually Silver Springs, Fl. The water is clear and it's a great tropical place to film. This place is to become a state park in Sept.

I think you Ginger fans are just turned on by the fantasy of the Hollywood seductress with the big lips, eyes, sexy dress, etc. Give me Mary Ann with her apple pie, golly gee character, and those "so tight they look painted on" short-shorts. Plus, I love brunettes. By the way, MeTV is gonna start showing Gilligan's Island in Sept. It'll be a nice change from the Dick Van Dyke show and MTM. So I'll be watching Gig's Island. It'll be good to see Dawn Wells' hot legs in those hot pants. **** wicked grin *****:bad

Taking a well-deserved break before they return to the Me-TV line-up are 'The Odd Couple,' 'The Lucy Show' and 'That Girl.' And the network says a fond farewell to 'Bewitched' and 'I Dream of Jeannie,' as both shows have ended their run on Me-TV.

I could do without Bob Newhart. Never thought he was funny at all. Okay, his deadpan style was funny the first couple times but after a while it just got stale. I only watch because of Suzanne Pleschette (or however her last name is spelled). I've gotten really bored with the MTM show but I've been watching Rhoda a lot. Damn was she hot. Even when she was supposed to be "fat and unattractive" she was hot. I loved that caboose and those thighs on her. Valerie Harper was beautiful. I read something a few months ago that she has inoperable brain cancer, or a tumor. That's really sad.

Mary Tyler Moore will still be on at 10pm, followed by Taxi, Bob Newhart, and Rhoda.

Well, I didn't waste too much time watchng those longer TV series back then (I only watched the 1/2 sitcoms like WKRP, MASH, One Day At A Time, Jeffersons, Sandford & Sons, Three's Company, etc...) when my freetime was plentyful back then, so I'm certainly going to spend my now-so-precious time to watch them ...

Never could get into MTM or Rhoda, or Lou Grant. As for looks, definitely different strokes, here. To me, she (and Mary Tyler Moore) had that awkward jaw thing going that made them look so skeletal. Bethenny Frankel resembles Valerie Harper... and that's not good:

Do you record programs? Roughly 90% of my tv viewing is via DVR; I skip the commercials! I even watch local news many times via DVR. Every show I watch on MeTV is recorded so I don't have to watch the commercials. I do find it funny that they speed up some of the shows so they can insert more commercials. Watch Adam-12 to see what I mean; they speed up some scenes. Not too noticeable unless it has dialogue. With the dialogue, they sound like they sucked helium before speaking. The opening credits is where it is most noticeable.

Valerie's jaw wasn't that chiseled (not that it bothers me that much anyway). You wanna see an ugly, chiselled, jaw on a woman? Farrah Fawcet. Never understood everyone going gaga over her. I never liked her or thought she was "hot" ever. MTM is way too boney, especially from the waste down. No thighs, no booty, no nuthin.' ;).

Gilligan is killing off Bewitched (Sam is my favorite!) and I Dream of Jeanie.
And as much as I like redheads, I have to pick Mary Ann. She aged far better too.

Get Smart is on METV from 1-2am Saturday nights (if it's still on)

I don't watch much more than METV since we don't pay extortionate prices for cable/satellite and network TV is just awful.

The Howells were awaiting their flight that had been delayed. They decided on the pleasure cruise to fill up the time.

Yet, he had at least one suitcase full of money. Combine that with the fact that Ginger had all those clothes and I think her and Ol' Thursty had something going on.

Think about it. All those years watching that show, and none of us knew the true story of Gilligan's Island. MaryAnn's obsession with coconut cream pies (we never did learn where the cream came from, with no apparent livestock on the island.) How about those mysterious out-of town "head hunters" who showed up about the same time every year? Hmmm.

"Lovey" Howell??? Indeed!

Did you know Gilligan's first name is actually Willy? That's true. Look it up.

The Skipper? Did you ever see a photo of him where he doesn't look like he's a friend of Dorothy's? Not that there's anything wrong with it. It was the sixties after all.

Which brings us to The Professor. I bet you he could teach them all a thing or two.

(I'm only sayin')

trurl
08-19-2013, 08:38 PM
Does anyone REALLY think the Professor wasn't smart enough to get them off the island? Come on, with Gilligan and the Skipper shacked up doin' their own thing (Little Buddy indeed) and Mr. Howell on a short leash and too old anyway he was fre and clear to be hooking up with Ginger and Mary Ann. Not only did he not get them off the island he was the one sabotaging every rescue that almost did work.

I heard an interview with Bob Denver years ago during which he recounted the reason why the show's opening theme song changed between seasons 1 & 2. Apparently, due to the show's commercial success, Denver felt powerful enough to insist that "the Professor & Mary Ann" be inserted or he would walk away from the show. The producers blinked...

And, as for BJ's... Well, lets just ask this question: who has more facial wrinkles & who doesn't?
