what is your avatar and why did you choose it?

My avatar is my Studio Gruno skull. I use it in different forms on other message boards. I will probably rotate between a few of them here to see how that works. I like the avatar feature as some become the image I think of when remembering board users.

When I upload an avatar or picture in my profile, I find myself clicking the "save changes" at the bottom of the page, then get the following:

Upload of file failed.

But it does upload.

Could be me, but looks intuitive to "save changes" after uploading.

Mine is a turkey vulture, taken from the "Raptors Up Close" program at Hawk Mountain. I do a little bit of bird watching, and find raptors to be fascinating. Turkey vultures in particular are marvels of evolution - they actually have a negative carbon footprint (they digest almost everything they eat, and what little waste they create is excreted onto their legs to serve as a disinfectant from clawing through rotting flesh)

My avatar was chosen as my PE name was; on the fly. It was the first thing I thought of (which are usually my best choices) . Mr. Toad is from, of course, The Wind in the Willows and the avatar is the impeccable Shelby Stanga from the show "Ax Men". He is quite the entertaining chap.

Mine is one of the pieces I did for Ava Inferi's Blood of Bacchus album, specifically to illustrate the song "Black Wings". Although the vocals in the song are Carmen Simoes and Garm (Kristoffer Rygg), the figures depicted are Carmen and Rune Eriksen, since they are both in the band and are husband and wife. In the image, she is dead and he is a sort of "final dream", taking her from this world into the next. I chose it because it is one of the first pieces I have done to appear on an album.

Thanks! The three pieces tell a story, or try to, using the song's lyrics, so there's parts of the imagery that makes sense from the context of the song: "The snow in your hands" (there's snow in Rune's hands in the first image), "Your frozen heart..." (part of the second image has Rune's heart exposed, as these I believe are Carmen's lyrics, usually seemingly directed at Rune). "drowning in moving sands" (part of the second image depicts Rune's hand out as he is buried in a whirlpool of sand), "These black wings you gave me are heavy" (Carmen has the wings), ""the wasteland where you stay" (the third image is a wasteland with a silhouette of winged Carmen in the foreground and Rune's face hidden on one of the mountains).

Very artistic pic, Ian! I guess a move is in your near future; hope it's a smooth transition :)

I chose my avatar because I like mandalas...and fish....(because I love being near the ocean and I'm a pisces). Plain and simple!

My avatar is the album cover of my former band's first and last album: Bad Dog U - s/t... as a handful of you know. It's 9 years old now and I've pretty much given up on trying to promote it anymore... except for this last feeble attempt. Besides, I still love the cover, which I looked through thousands of stock photography submissions to find.

Just cued up my new copy of Bad Dog U (from CD Baby). Some thoughtful music here - kind of a fusion/prog blend. I'm really liking the guitar work.

Ah, so you're the recent "anonymous customer"(CD Baby emails it's artists to let them know whenever somebody has purchased their CD)! Since the CD has been there for nine years now, I get an email like that about once every two or three months, so it's always a noteworthy event! Thanks so much for buying it, Jerjo! I'm glad you're liking the guitar work, especially since that was me! :)

MIne is a picture of an angry ugly cat. I have no idea why I picked it except that it was in my Pictures folder.

On the old PE, I had profile photos of me playing bass and wearing a kimono on stage in 1977 and in 2008. This Symphony X album cover reminds me of that.

Staying on the 19th Century caricature theme, my new avatar is detail from this (http://superitch.com/images/2012/03/Puck18841008cntrspread.jpg). Obviously, this bit is a takeoff from the famous cherubs from Raphael’s Sistine Madonna (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Madonna)...which means there’s sort of a prog connection via DDR rockers Electra.
